UK Film & High-End TV Tax Relief

The UK Government offers significant tax reliefs for qualifying film and high-end television productions:

UK Independent Film Tax Credit (IFTC)

  • Up to 53% tax relief on qualifying UK production expenditure
  • Available to independent films meeting the cultural test
  • Designed specifically to support British independent cinema

UK High-End Television Tax Credit

  • Up to 34% relief on qualifying UK
    expenditure for high-end TV drama
  • Minimum UK expenditure requirements apply
  • Available for dramas with a minimum
    cost per hour of programming

UK Animation Tax Relief

  • Available for qualifying animated productions
  • Significant relief on UK core expenditure

UK Children's Television Tax Relief

The British Film Commission

The British Film Commission (BFC) is the national body supporting inward
investment film and high-end television productions. It provides:

  • Free advice on all aspects of filming in the UK
  • Introduction to regions, studios and crew
  • Support with logistics, visas and UK co-production treaties

Co-Production Opportunities

The UK has bilateral co-production treaties with a number of countries, allowing qualifying co-productions to access UK tax reliefs as well as the benefits of the co-production partner country. Wessex has excellent potential as a base for European co-productions in particular.
